Every year BayCon, the local Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention,
picks a 501c(3) non-profit to be the beneficiary of a charity auction.
Today it was decided that Noisebridge should be the recipient of this year's
charity auction proceeds. (Unless there's a consensus to turn down the
money.)
The auction will be held during BayCon, which runs from Friday, May 27th,
through Monday, May 30th. (That's one week after this year's Maker Faire,
and also the Memorial Day holiday weekend.)
I hope to be at this Tuesday's member meeting to answer any questions,
or you can email me directly.
As BayCon's official charity, a space will be made available in our
"Fan Tables"
section for Noisebridge to operate an informational table. This will include
two complementary full-convention memberships for Noisebridge volunteers
to staff the table.
If one of the Noisebridge volunteers staffing the table also wishes to make
a presentation about Noisebridge or some of the projects being worked on
there, it's not too late to make a suggestion for a presentation by emailing:
programming11 at baycon.org
Any further BayCon memberships beyond the free two ones will need to
be purchased. These are currently $75 for an all-access four-day membership
when purchased online, and will be $80 at the door. There will be a $5 off
discount made available for pre-registration by May 1st, making the cost
only $70. I'll have the url for that discount by tomorrow.
