Its the "genius of the AND" not the "tyranny of the OR". It's not a
matter of "lockers OR shelves". It's a matter of "lockers AND shelves".
You get a new option. Before, you just had shelves. Now you get a
second option, lockers.
More bullet points...
* using a locker is optional. we still have the shelves. if you don't
like the lockers then don't use them. to each his own.
* putting a lock on a locker is optional. if you don't like locks, then
don't use one. to each his own.
* to clarify, we don't have room in the current shelf area for either
lockers or more shelves. some shelves would need to be moved.
* the extra shelves could be re-purposed as more hack shelves, which
also seem necessary given all the stuff on the floor by the hack shelves.
* the lockers are flat on the back so my plan is lockers on one side
with shelves up against them back-to-back.
* We can't get these until next week anyway because the guy is too busy
to deliver them (i just talked with him on the phone again)
* we'd likely get an even 4 lockers because the shelves are side-by-side
2-at-a-time.
Moxie's comment about aesthetics is also an important point. Lockers
would add some serious aesthetic value to Noisebridge. We could
spraypaint a giant mural on them, put stickers on them, add l.e.d.'s,
etc. So the lockers have value beyond the interior space.
