[Noisebridge-discuss] Circuit Hacking Monday Audio Annex?

Wow, today's lucky children! I haven't done much toy hacking, but popping it open to see what's inside without breaking it shouldn't be a trial, and adding a 1/4" jack is usually easy. At least with older toys, I think a lot of circuit-bender types start by messing around with the clock, or with the controversial "lick your fingers and touch different parts of the board to see what happens" method. Hackaday just posted a nice howto on modifying toy keyboards without resorting to randomly connecting things. It's geared toward making unintended sounds, but also includes some info on how toy keyboards usually work, which would come in handy if you wanted to make new ways of triggering the existing sounds. Hopefully someone else would be able to chip in some more legit electronics advice once you know what's inside.

We can look forward to big group projects (laser-harp-controllered modular synth?), making useful enclosure and PCB designs to make or have made, group purchases of useful things like PCBs, enclosures, jacks and 3PDT switches, and maybe even some organized efforts to show not-yet-hacker musicians how they can build their own version of that boutique tubescreamer clone they've been lusting after. For now, I'll just be at the space tonight trying to make an AVR-based MIDI arpeggiator; you should stop by.
