The usual Linux thing is to go to your distribution and check the bugs list
and see if you see anything like your problem and see if there is a patch,
and if it is worth adding comment your situation to any existing bug(s) or
submitting your own bug report. Besides your distro you could also try
kernel.org.

Assuming you don't have experience in kernel programming or substantial
desire to learn as it is a long term commitment.

Does the kernel you are running print a number in brackets preceding
messages (would also show up in dmesg output and at boot time), if not your
building a kernel with debugging on might help the kernel people deal with
the problem.

Also, if you file a bug being responsive to any requests from the maintainer
/ developer to test a fix or provide further information. You could indeed
offer and state your experience level in your bug report.

If you have never participated in this way, do not be discouraged, its a lot
of fun ! I am not kidding, even if you are not a programmer. Maybe you will
even get an email from Linus, who knows ! Be nice.
