Hi all,

As you may know, VHS is involved in putting on the Vancouver Mini
Maker Faire happening in June. I know that many of you have amazing
projects or projects-in-progress that you'd love to show off. This is
a good chance to do just that. The catch is that the call for makers
is now open and THE DEADLINE IS IN TWO WEEKS!

Fear not: the application form is easy and straightforward. But you
MUST fill out an application: we need to know what projects will be
showcased so that we can work out the floorplan, plan for power
consumption, etc. If your application is late, we may not be able to
accommodate your needs.

If you want to participate but aren't sure what you're bringing, if
you want to participate but can't make the March 17th deadline, or if
you have any questions/concerns whatsoever, please contact
makers at makerfaire.ca

The official Call for Makers is below. Forward/repost at will. All
makers, builders, hackers, crafters, artists, and other creative types
are welcome.

Make stuff, not war,
-Jenny

The Vancouver Mini Maker Faire call for makers is now open!
Deadline is MARCH 17th, 2011.

See http://vancouver.makerfaire.ca/makers/ for details and application form.

If you absolutely can't complete your application by March 17th,
please contact makers (at) makerfaire.ca immediately to discuss the
details of your project.

Cost:
Application fee is $25 for non-vending exhibitors, and $100 for
vending exhibitors, payable upon approval of your application.
Application fees cover the cost of space, equipment rental, insurance,
and permits. Exhibitors will also receive 2 free tickets (a $25
value). For vendors, application fees include vending permits. If
the application cost is prohibitive, non-vendors can apply to have the
fee waived.

FAQ

Why is this deadline so early?

Maker Faires can include a wide range of projects, from the tiny and
fragile to the large and potentially hazardous. This means lots of
red tape, and lots of logistical wrangling with respect to placement,
hence lots of lead time.

When/Where is the event?

Vancouver Mini Maker Faire will take place June 25-26, 2011, at Great
Northern Way Campus, 577 Great Northern Way, Vancouver, BC.

What is Maker Faire?

“Maker” culture grew out of the DIY movement and is based on the
principle that ordinary people, given access to knowledge, skills and
technology, can and will create extraordinary things. A maker can be
any person or group who invents, designs, and/or builds objects or
information systems with the goal of learning, teaching, inspiring or
improving the state of the world. A Maker Faire is a combination
conference and exhibition, intended to foster community and facilitate
collaboration throughout this diverse community.

Makers recognize that there is no hard line between art, technology,
and craftsmanship. Engineers can appreciate and create art, while
artists and craftspeople can use technology to enrich their creations.
Maker Faires build community by allowing creative individuals with
complex interests to network, learn, and build personal and
professional relationships. This fosters collaboration, project
development, and ultimately leads to new discoveries.

At Mini Maker Faire Vancouver, you can expect to find art, science,
technology, demonstrations, workshops, maker groups, interactive
performances, roaming exhibitions, speakers, and other assorted
happenings. Maker Faire will not only showcase innovative and
exciting projects within the community, but will inspire and welcome
public participation and audience involvement.
