[Noisebridge-discuss] City of Berkeley explanation of why not using open source.. Open Source vs. "proprietary" software

Are there any large cities using open source software and publishing their
modifications to the source? If the hired help can't tie their own
shoelaces, maybe someone else can. It feels strange to see a city paying
millions to work on solutions in private that would be useful to everyone.

A new meaning for the term 'Berkeley Software Distribution' perhaps...
