I've experienced the exact opposite of this, actually.

I have seriously offended men [in the United States, in the 21st century] by
opening the door for them; I hurt, nay, WOUNDED their masculinity (which
felt awesome, btw). Apparently you need a penis to hold open doors for an
extended time -- they're used as doorstops or something.

So, I say fight the established culture and instead of holding doors open
for anyone, let them SLAM in their #%$@#! faces. FACE, meet the DOOR of
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY! You can open it yourself.
