Hurt Locker Producer Nicholas Chartier to Keynote Content Protection Summit, Dec. 8

“Hurt Locker” producer Nicholas Chartier is no stranger to controversy,
so expect him to make news and stir up debate during his keynote address
at the 2nd Annual Content Protection Summit, Dec., 8, 2011 at the
Hilton Los Angeles Hotel in Universal City, CA. The event,
co-produced by Variety magazine and CDSA, the international content
security association, is the annual meeting for content executives
involved in the fight against the piracy of movies, games and
music.

Chartier is one of the most vocal members of Hollywood’s creative community about the implications of Internet piracy on the film
community. He made headlines last year after announcing that his
company, Voltage Pictures, had declared war on film pirates and was
planning to sue thousands of people who illegally downloaded his Academy
Awardwinning picture on the popular file-sharing site BitTorrent.

Chartier had previously made headlines when he was banned from the 2009
Oscars after he e-mailed members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts
and Sciences to solicit votes for his company’s movie. He apologized
later for violating the rules. In addition to “Hurt Locker,” which
garnered six Academy Awards including “Best Picture,” he has been
involved in the financing, production and sales of a diverse range of
films for the past 10 years.

Chartier’s keynote is part of a one-day, in-depth, expert conference
devoted to best practices and case studies of successful strategies used to combat the theft of intellectual property in media and
entertainment. The event will provide exclusive insights into today’s
burgeoning cyber-threat, updates on piracy in China and other Asian
markets, as well as presentations on new technologies that are proven
piracy deterrents.

The Content Protection Summit has garnered the support of a wide range
of industry associations including: AFTRA, BMI, CEA, ISSA, and
NATPE. Technology providers and companies that will showcase their
latest anti-piracy and content protection solutions and strategies
include: Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Deluxe, Irdeto, Akamai, Civolution,
Rovi, WhiteHat Security, Savvis, TID:Protect, Fortium and others.
