[Noisebridge-discuss] Prevent Diarrhea

Oh yeah it works amazingly well. They don't really crawl around much so
much, so once they get inside most fall into the venegar and the rest crawl
around the glass. I used a smaller opening and it works just fine. the hard
part is getting the bits around the glass to be covered, but if you make a
round-enough funnel, they'll never crawl through. They don't push through
cracks or move things like ants. I think if we were to leave a few out at
Noisebridge, they would quickly reduce the flying population. Killing off
the adults won't do the job, though. "Stage 1: Egg – Fruit flies can lay up
to 500 eggs in their lifetime of less than two weeks! They will only lay
their eggs in the surface of moist, organic material. They prefer fermenting
and rotting fruits and vegetables. This is the weak point that we will use
to eradicate them." After about 2 weeks the eggs go through the stages and
metamorphose into the flying animal we usually are aware of. These flies can
reproduce again within 2 days.

So if there are flies around, there must be some food that's been sitting
out for more than a week. Maybe in a garbage can or maybe the food market
next door. We can put the traps in the windows or in other specific areas to
see where we catch the most?
