I half agree with you: I don't think that Sergey feels he needs more money. But Google is still his baby, and I find it hard to believe that he doesn't have some emotional involvement in Google's success. I don't think he is acting in a craven, planned way. It just affects his perspective.

I don't agree that Apple's walled garden restricts the Internet. I do think that services that are accessed exclusively through apps have the potential to reduce availability of services. Instagram would be an example: you had to use an iPhone to get to it. Not because of Apple's walled garden but because the company didn't bother to make an Android, Blackberry, Linux, Symbian or Windows Phone version.

I think there are some interesting problems in this space, but I don't think that he has shown any significant insight. I am happy to hear publicity being brought to this, though.
