I had an idea...

One of the things we've talked about WRT to the gate is using it to sort
and filter people who are already part of the community, by making it more
unusual for people to buzz in, we would be alerting people inside that a
noob was coming.. I have been thinking about how it would be great to be
able to do a little visual sorting this way, within the space, above and
beyond "oh, that person has a laptop and doesn't smell too bad, must be a
hacker"

I am NOT talking about RFID at all, although using QR codes would be super
cool. I am envisioning something kind of related to the light-up name tags
that Miloh's friend makes. What if we had a special edition of those, or
something else entirely, that we issued to members and key-trusted people
in the larger community? there could be a whole ecology of designs, and if
you are leet enough to make one then you are hacker enough to stay. It
would have to be something that was feasible to carry around a lot of the
time, so we could build a culture of people displaying their nametag/QR
code/whatever when they were at noisebridge. Eventually, if you didnt have
one it would be because you were either a noob or an oogle.

If we 3d printed the door key, one edition of the badge could somehow
incorporate it even? There could be a fun thing where the badges can click
together, 'mate' if you will, that would provide some sort of peer-to-peer
authentication.
