I interviewed a guy for a job once. He told me the reason he couldn't answer my IPv4 routing questions (basic theory - not router config) was that he hadn't been doing IT for four or five years *and he wasn't up to date with the latest studd*. 

(this was in 2008, not 1978. So he couldn't claim he only knew ipv2. This was especially amusing to me since I'd recently bought a book published in 1994 to brush up on my bit level packet knowledge)
