[Noisebridge-discuss] PsychedelicSF

I've actually always wondered why people think they are "better" at certain
things when they are on psychadelics. Realize this is coming from someone
who has never been on them (and unfortunately, if I want to keep a job
along my current interest lines...which I do...then I won't be able to).

Personally, I think a clinical trial on the effect of psychadelics would be
really interesting. Unfortunately, from the "studies" mentioned by previous
posters and the "trials" that could be ongoing, none appear to be very
legit. Reason being, it doesn't look like any have been registered by the
FDA...

If you are running a defacto, peer-reviewed clinical trial with the intent
of using the results to sway a regulatory body, you *must*, repeat *must*
register that trial with the FDA. All trials registered with the FDA get
posted to the website clinicaltrials.gov to give open access to anyone
interested in participating. To run a clinical trial, you must have a
defined endpoint - you can't just "feel great". You have to have raised
brain activity, or reduced disease levels by mri, or increased appetite,
really *anything* at all measureable, and you have to define what that is
up front before starting the trial.

So, I think the interesting question I pose to the crowd that I think you'd
have to answer at some point is: "what does a psychadelic do that
conclusively cures an ailment or increases a capacity that can be
measured?" Considering *that* question would be hacking (errr...science!)
imo. Sitting around talking about seeing cool colors? Not so much.
