I try to get to announcements within 12 hours, faster if I can.  Other
people do too.  We mostly do OK, sometimes fall down on the job.

It'd be easier if people would send out their announcments more than 48
hours before the events. :)

Often enough we get perfectly well-intentioned emails erroneously sent
to -announce.  I have done it myself more than once by replying to a
-announce mail.  So I'm not willing to bypass the moderation queue.
