[Noisebridge-discuss] Who do we want to exclude? [Drama]

From a philosophy professor, I believe, on a radio show I was listening to:

"Epistemic violence" : violence caused by knowledge. 

The example he gave was when a woman gets in an elevator with a black man and looks frightened because she thinks a black man is likely to assault her. When he sees her fear, then his knowledge that his skin color frightens people is an act of epistemic violence against him.

I get the feeling that some people try to apply the term "violence" to things because violence is agreed by most people to be bad, and should be stopped, so that label will make people try to stop something.
