[Noisebridge-discuss] Feces and Urine in the shop

Thanks, Reverend Mik. *This is really unacceptable.*

I think it would do us some good to establish set of *"Hacker ethics"* very
much in line with what is at MIT:

These *guidelines* could be posted in LARGE LETTERS as a mural as you enter
the space so that it is made clear what is expected of individuals whom are
given the *privilege* to enjoy Noisebridge and the community we as a whole
have created.

The idea of a *non-binding* set of *protocols* would be to establish a
normalization of behavior (a phrase I am sure will bother more than a few
people).

One of the key things I have learned thus far in life is that *you really
cannot assume anything of anyone*, including "standards" of behavior; not
because "people are bad," but because...

• People come from all sorts of backgrounds and experiences, and the one
experience that taught you not to pick your nose may not have happened to
someone else.
• We are a product of the environment with which we surround ourselves.
• Everything each of us knows is a result of an external input being
interpretted by an internal process, and we each have varying reactions to
external inputs.

Those who are generally active in these discussions are likely not those
who are treating the space poorly, and so these email threads are *preaching
to the choir* + the few "trolls" who, to a limited extent, do us a service
by engaging debate (and then usually things fall to pieces...).

*The challenge then is in determining what characteristics of Noisebridge
are indeed are part of our proud character and which are merely
correlational and/or detrimental and should be changed.*

I may or may not be at tonight's meeting as I am leaving for NYC tomorrow
for a week.

-Ken
