You can't expect to *build* a DIY miner with no previous experience, but
you could feasibly help reverse-engineer an existing board as noted in
the wiki page for the project.

Unfortunately you'd need one of the existing boards to reverse-engineer
and those are very hard to get ahold of.

I'd recommend starting out with one of the standard CHM projects,
soldering a through-hole project like a boarduino or a Trippy or a
TV-b-gone, as your first project.  Then use an multimeter + oscilloscope
to reverse-engineer the chip pin-out on your project, finding the Vcc
and ground and PWM pins, so you get some experience with the skills
needed for a more sophisticated effort like reversing an ASIC miner.
