RE: Antenna directionality.

It's not "just" the antenna itself. It's also the interactions between what
an antenna or array is externally influenced by. Decades ago there was a
rooftop point-to-point system that had a GHZ range transceiver's antenna
dish literally deep draw stamped into a metal panel of it's enclosure.

Slot loaded designs in metallic boxes may be a worthy method to explore as
well. The box can be partitioned internally for isolation of logic and RF
areas. One example might be lost PLA casting of Fractal Array and the
housing with PLA bits for mounting standoffs.
