[Noisebridge-discuss] Associate members? Did I miss something?

Sorry, I've been ignoring the space after giving up on it a year ago.
What the hell are Associate Members? And why didn't the group just give
keys to Affiliate Members donating a certain amount of money per month
and be done with it?
