Most of the clones work well enough, some are a little cheaper but lack
on-board USB.
I think Circuit Hacking Monday has kits for Diavolino:

Other options:
You can buy an AVR programmer (CHM also has these kits
http://learn.adafruit.com/usbtinyisp) and use it to flash the Arduino
bootloader on raw AVR chips, make your own Arduino clone! (I use mine to
program a lot of $1 ATtiny chips)
Jameco, Radioshack, etc sell Arduinos locally.
If you can wait a few weeks for delivery, ebay has inexpensive clones in
smaller form factor with USB:
