[Noisebridge-discuss] A Community Curated Suicide Prevention Campaign

I first met Aaron at an O'Reilly conference about ten years ago. While I can't count him as a friend, we crossed paths from time to time, and I admired his work. I attended his funeral this week, and never want to see friends and family have to go through something like that.

I decided to devote some time to a community curated suicide prevention campaign. It is modeled after early AIDS prevention campaigns, which deal with the issue in a frank, direct manner, without medicalizing the subject, and treated people like adults. What I've done is to write a storyboard / narrative which illustrators and audio/visual arts can use as the basis for animated or printed versions of this, and can adapt to various audiences, from adolescents, to people who've recently experienced a major loss. You can find the narrative at:

https://github.com/worldwidelexicon/why_you_shouldnt_commit_suicide/blob/master/storyboard.md

Please spread the word to your friends. If any good can come out of this, it will be better suicide prevention campaigns and programs.

If anyone wants to discuss, I can be reached at bsmcconnell at gmail.com

Thanks,

Brian McConnell
