FWIW (not sure if this helps for diagnosis), it had a sticking point
at about 10° clockwise from neutral. Otherwise it spun freely.

I didn't try pushing super hard, because I didn't want to cause
damage. I pushed with I think a normal amount of force; after about a
half-inch of push, I felt and heard something in the latching
mechanism engage, and the door seemed to be hitting the lock. I didn't
try to force it open.

Alas, I don't. But IANAlocksmith; I don't know the cause of failure
here. Just reporting what happened.
I'm glad to hear that it's being worked on by folk more experienced
than me, and I appreciate the difficulty of doing so.
I'm also glad that there's been a continuous presence at Noisebridge
such that people have been able to be let in. It seems a kinda
problematic failure mode, though.
Given those failures, supposing there weren't anyone in, how would we
(or our 2nd floor neighbors) enter the building, short of lock
destruction? Try to climb up the fire escape? It'd be nice if we had
at least some kind of viable backup method.
