[Noisebridge-discuss] Kitchen overhaul this Thursday - Saturday

Hi to all,
I definitely disagree with the proposed changes of taking the "island" in the kitchen out asking for this to go through consensus as a major change in the kitchen, reasons are below, basically it is fundamental change which would make any food related classes and larger food preparations at the place extremely difficult.

Did this change of kitchen went though consensus already? I am checking the list a lot but I have not seen this comming and I'm sure that if people around food see this it is going to be definitelly blocked.

This proposal is decreasing the kitchen workshop and presentation capabalities by 70-80% making it very unsuitable for any larger (over 5 people) classes and meal for event preparations. I've done catering on many events CCC included, building now kitchen for OHM 2013 and working/volunteered in kitchens this design is not good for activities described above and it is completely against the direction of bringing the attention of hackers and hacker movement to the food as crucial factor of a healthy life. You may not have too much activities around the food at the moment but sooner or later it will come as it did before. Taking the central element from best kitchen which I have seen at any hackerspace till now when it is there already after being build with so much work by many (not me in this case), that seems very unreasonab le to me. If you do not aim to bascially to end food related activities in the place you should not go ahead and destroy the ile. I
personally believe that food should be taken very seriously and the experimental kitchen should stay in the place as it is if not improved.

Please if you can copy me on the situation it would be nice, I'll try to go through that but I'm now on the ground for OHM building the Food Hacking Base so my time is limited.

Sincerely,

Andy.

I believe that we have made the best effort we can, through Rebase, to
achieve general agreement (or community buy-in) on the kitchen
proposal and that the changes we are making are excellent and fall
under do-ocracy.

The entire project, minus some minor modifications discussed at last
nights Rebase meeting, is here:

https://noisebridge.net/wiki/Kitchen_Mission

I will update this soon, along with posting some meeting notes.

Discussion regarding making changes to the kitchen and encouraging
community involvement have been ongoing since it was selected during
the 06/25/2013 meeting as the theme for the 07/02/2013 Rebase meeting.
This theme and following proposals have been updated on the wiki, sent
to discuss, and presented at the meetings since.

At the previous meetings leading to this proposal we have had strong
agreement that something needs to be done to the kitchen; that it does
not work as is. The current proposal is the third iteration of the
kitchen project and reflects the concerns and compromises of those
attending the Rebase meetings and those who contributed via email to
those discussions. Excepting Cynthia, the attendees of the last
meeting felt that this was a strong proposal that we should act on.

I hope that this addresses your concern.

(The rest of this message is just about Rebase)

For the discussion list, a reminder:

As far as Rebase is concerned, in general, the intent is to make
excellent changes and improvements to the Noisebridge space that
require more resources, scheduling, and work than a single user can
achieve. The meetings are scheduled at at regular time and the
processes and intent of the Rebase meetings are documented on the
wiki. The meetings are announced to discuss and the notes are kept (as
well as possible). We have had good attendance at the meetings, and I
would love to see even better attendance.

I encourage everyone to please attend these meetings and help Rebase
deliver excellent changes/improvements to our community. Collaboration
and development of projects is by no means constrained to the Rebase
meetings, but they are designed to be a good place for it. Especially
if one feels they need community buy-in. If one cannot attend, please
make a wiki page with your proposal and add it to the Rebase page.
Send me, or someone else that can present on your behalf, your
comments and proposals for us to bring up during the meeting.

-Jarrod
