Openwrt, which is the original Debian-spinoff, gives you all the geeky
options. DD is based on Openwrt, but is designed by one guy who attempts
to sell it commercially and recommends you support him when installing it
on a router. At this point DDwrt is a drop-in WebUI solution, while
Openwrt pops you into a shell (during installation). Tomato is highly
recommended as it focuses on being totally user friendly, while including
lots of features. All of them are great. There are other firmwares, which
are designed around free software poitics, but I've never been interested
in them.
