Just thought of another reason why SecureString is a silly idea:
memory utilization varies by python interpreter implementation. :p

Sometimes I just get overexcited about some weird idea I have over a
weekend.

Naomi,
While of course you'll do what you want to do re: your Python
secureconfig app, you might also want to consider checking out
Noisebridge's PyClass-Discussion GoogleGroup, link at
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/pyclass .
Perhaps you might get additional good feedback there for your app?

Related to the above and on the chance that the following news may be
appropriate for you or other excellent Py coders you know of, the
current PyClass-Discussion thread happens to be 'Advanced Python:
Looking for a new teacher'.
Liz has been teaching the advanced python class for about 3 years now
and needs a break, therefore this class has been cancelled for the near
future until someone else can step up to teach this.
Make of that what you will... just sending this along as an appropriate
FYI.
