Naomi is asking the big question. The MOST important question facing noisebridge today.

"Who is a hacker?"

The problem noisebridge has is that there are folks taking advantage of it. There is a
belief that the originally vague mission of noisebridge is no longer up to the task of
furthering the goal of being a 'hackerspace'. And there are folks who want to perform
major policy updates to the mission and general structure of noisebridge. At the heart
of all of this is this one simple question.

"Who is a hacker?"

And to answer this simple question, at least as far as it relates to noisebridge, is to
answer this other question...

"What is the mission of noisebridge, today?"

Answer those two questions now. Or you are all fucked. And noisebridge will implode.

And these aren't simple questions. The reality is, if you answer them right, you are
going to lose a lot of members and piss a lot of people off. Because what you'll be
doing in effect by limiting the vague scope of what noisebridge is, is telling people
that they do not belong. That they are no longer a part of the noisebridge community.
And that's going to hurt.

So all this bickering about kitchens, about ban rules, about whether or not the space
should stay open late. All of this is dancing around the very core issue.

Many feel the mission of noisebridge has failed. They want to redefine it. In doing
this, they will limit the future scope of the mission, and the community. And that
means... not just the folks who are leeches on the community, but contributors, and
die hard believers will find themselves no longer welcome. And they will fight
bitterly to avoid that.

So, as Naomi asked. "Who is a hacker?"

What the fuck is the purpose of Noisebridge today. And what do you want it to be
tomorrow. Hold no punches. It's time to decide what the fuck you people are about.
