There are people who spend their entire "working" days trying to figure
out how to put spam on MediaWiki. Literally hundreds of person-years
have been put towards this "goal".

Part-time sysadmins of publicly-editable wikis (liberal account creation
policies) have essentially no hope of winning. It sucks, but that's life.
