Well, so I have one experiment in mind, creating a Prince Rubert's Drop 
<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe-f4gokRBs>, but I may end up wanting 
to do more with melting glass.

Any ideas on a cheap/easy/safe way to source glass for such activities?

Also, will a propane blow torch do the trick? That's pretty much the 
highest-heat producing device I currently have.
