Not at all.  Though it bothers me that you bring a negative connotation of
'amateur' in this sentence. You assume that 'amateur' electrical work is
worse/less safe or whatever than work by someone who is paid of it. Yet the
important that things are done correctly and safely which the people in the
space who have worked on these things know. It is really not hard to wire
up things and follow the safety rules. Many of us have done this since they
are kids.

Amateurs are what makes a Hackerspace. Literally the word means 'someone
who loves what they are doing'. If we wouldn't be passionate about what we
are doing, Noisebridge wouldn't exist, because there would be no passionate
people who work with technology even though they are not in the field 'by
trade'. But they very well know what they are doing and know how to safely
operate their space. Otherwise there would be nobody using a tablesaw (OMG,
blade). Or nobody soldering (OMG, heat), or Neurohacking (OMG, electrodes
connected to humans), or software writing (OMG, no software engineering
degree) ... and Noisebridge would be dead.
