I hope that some of you will consider that DARPA is part of the US military.

Digging up an old thread, I thought people that liked the GSM monitoring workshop might like this event: http://darpahackfest.com/bay-area-hackfest

Thanks Ash,

That was a great workshop! Thanks for spending the time to organize and set it up.

Hey all,

I wanted to send a note of thanks to all who attended the workshop today, and to Noisebridge for letting us use the space.

...And an apology for forgetting to shut off the projector and roll up the screen before I left :-)

Thanks a bunch! See y'all soon!

It wasn't the last update. But maybe this one will be.

If you're coming to the workshop on Sunday, double-check your component list. There was an issue with Amazon (user error, TBH) where items were not visible on the list if someone else had already purchased them. I fixed the problem.

I'll have a few sensors we can cannibalize for spare parts, but I have no idea how many people are attending... So please have a second look and if you're short on parts, reach out to me here or on the gitter channel and we'll get it sorted out.

See you on Sunday!!

(maybe the last) UPDATE: The people at Hologram.io were kind enough to send a stack of GSM SIM cards for the workshop! If you show up with everything but the SIM, you'll be covered... unless you're behind the 25th person to show up without a SIM, then I can't help you :-)

UPDATE: You'll need a GSM SIM card. I initially forgot to add that to the parts list. There's one on Amazon from Ting Wireless (Those are the ones I've used) for 9 bucks. Some providers will give them away for free. If you make this an adventure in social engineering, make sure you get the GSM type, not CDMA.

Hey everybody,
The date has been set for the GSM MITM sensor assembly party: March 26th. I've put some more details on the wiki, and there's a parts list on Amazon ( http://a.co/4rOTjyF ) of components that are known to work well. Closest thing to a real HCL so far :-)

Feel free to reach out in this thread, to me directly via email, or in the SITCH Gitter channel ( https://gitter.im/sitch-io/Lobby )

Hey Drew,

Have a look at the DEF CON slides, linked at the bottom of the page at https://sitch.io . There is also a white paper with links to prior art, and that should give you a pretty good view into what it's designed to do.

I'm possibly interested in this, but I'd like to do some pre-reading before I'm ready to commit. Specifically, I'm interested in the technology we'd be working with and its uses (including some examples). Is there a website or something we can take a look at?

It was really nice meeting y'all (some for the second time) at the Tuesday meeting.

I've posted the date for the GSM anomaly detection workshop (Sunday, March 26th) on the wiki, so now it's just a matter of (me) doing the prep work and coordination... and the participants grabbing the gear. I left plenty of lead time in case Amazon/Adafruit gets weird with stock availability.

Feel free to ask questions in this thread, or drop them in the Gitter channel (https://gitter.im/sitch-io/Lobby).

To make sure we have enough switch ports for everyone, what's a good way to get a headcount? Eventbrite? Meetup? Am I overthinking it?

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I'll be in the space on and off, so I'll be seeing you around!
