[Noisebridge-discuss] Spearphising in the maker community

What do you do when your entire community is being phished? What do you do
when your social networks are subject to social engineering? What do you
do when your peers and your friends are subject to a confidence scam?

This is not a hypothetical question. This is happening, now.

Since the failure of TechShop, our community has been grasping at straws.
This is a community which operates in a sphere where trust isn't questioned
and this is being exploited, right now.

So I turn to my community which is security conscious. I turn to a
community which is politically active in social equality and cognizant of
social engineering. People who understand the vulnerability of social
networks, both online and in person.

This is largely centered around exploiting public personas and
friends-lists through Facebook and good, old fashion telephone. This is
about applying constant pressure and mining people for information which
they feel is innocuous, but which serves to bring new vulnerabilities into
resolution, pixel by pixel, 9 to 5.

Much of this conflict is centered around $600,000 in back pay owed to
Employees and Contractors, and millions of dollars owed to members,
lenders, and leased equipment companies.

We have legal counsel, we have active and organized workers, we have a
newly weary community, but we don't have the centuries of collective
security experience Noisebridge has.

Would anyone here be willing to sit down and review our observations and
help us understand how to proceed in this environment where trust and
community have been breached?

Thank you
