San Jose Airport Art+Technology program seeks an ArtGeek!

San Jose Airport Art Program - Consulting Art Technician – (aka
“ArtGeek”)

The ArtGeek oversees the largest concentration of technology-based
public artwork in the country. Located in the San Jose International
Airport’s brand new terminal, the collection includes a giant
propeller-driven robotic sculpture, streaming networked cameras, a
massive cloud of flickering glass, liquid-cooled projectors, twitter
feeds, and a school of live fish with underwater surveillance cameras.
Working from an underground Art+Tech workshop with electronics bench and
state-of-the-art sound system, the ArtGeek keeps it all humming.
Three-letter acronyms don’t phase the ArtGeek in the least: SSH, VPN,
SCP, XML, UDP, API, EC2, RSA, PGP… the ArtGeek knows them all.

The ArtGeek may have worked at a research lab, a network operations
center, or any everyday IT shop, but the ArtGeek’s creative instinct
demands something more. At the San Jose Airport the ArtGeek helps
develop and maintain artworks by world-famous artists – works
experienced by thousands of airport users each week.

The ArtGeek loves a challenge, writes clever code to solve unusual
problems and knows which bolt, bracket and tool go with every piece in
the art collection. The ArtGeek speaks Python and Django, keeps
meticulous records, and can pass an FBI security clearance to carry an
airport access badge.

The City of San José, capital of Silicon Valley, is searching for the
ArtGeek.

Could it be you?

This is a part-time consulting opportunity averaging 20 hours a week
working under the direction of the San Jose Public Art Program with
offices at the San Jose Airport Administration and workshop at the new
Terminal. Compensation range is $85 – $110 per hour.
