Job Description

This role will be initially responsible for all end user systems for
PlayFirst, Inc. The successful candidate will be a lead contributor to
IT for PlayFirst, handling day to day functions, and corporate IT,
supporting both internal and external clients. This position will be
contract based, with an estimated business need of 20-30 hours a week,
five days a week. The successful candidate for this role will have the
potential to grow into a Linux Systems Engineer that will work in
tandem with our senior network engineer in this field. The candidate
of choice will be a go-getter who has the desire to expand his/her
knowledge and experience working with complex and highly available
custom applications. We’re looking for someone that can think outside
of the box; is passionate about technology, open source; is a “hacker
at heart”; is not afraid of digging in and exploring new technologies;
and can tackle issues with creativity.

Responsibilities:
Candidate will be highly proficient with Mac OS X and Windows XP/7.
Candidate will be responsible for analysis and resolution of hardware,
software and network connectivity/access problems reported by end
users.
Candidate must provide timely support for setting up, installing,
delivering and relocating desktop PCs and Macs (OS X), phone
equipment, printers, scanners, copy machines and other related
equipment and network connections and access.
Candidate will monitor helpdesk queue and respond accordingly as
tickets arrive and escalate if needed.
Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Candidate must have excellent customer service skills along with a
“can do” attitude.
Candidate must be able to work independently, in a fast moving small
company environment.
Candidate must have at least some experience with Linux at a user level.
Candidate must not be afraid of working with command line tools.
Candidate must be knowledge hungry and interested in learning
everything about Networking/Linux/Security.
Desired Skills & Experience

Required Experience:
3+ years of Mac OS X systems experience in a corporate environment (OS
X “power user”).
Highly proficient with Microsoft Windows 7 OS.
Thorough understanding of Google web-based applications such as Gmail,
Google drive, and Google calendar.
Strong familiarity and understanding of anti-virus software, standard
desktop security practices, and anti-malware software/practices.
Thorough operational understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP and DNS.
Familiarity with VOIP corporate telephone systems.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
A minimum of user level Linux, installation and familiarity.
Preferred Experience:
More thorough knowledge of GNU/Linux, Debian and Ubuntu operating systems.
Willingness to use or participate/learn more in network security,
Linux scripting and programming in an advanced capacity.
Experience with common desktop software suites (e.g. Adobe/Macromedia).
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Ruby/Bash scripting for OSX or Linux a big plus.
