[Space] FWD: let's build a cool geo-aware robot - I'll visualize the crap out of the results we get

I'm definitely interested, I've been flying RC helicopters for a few
years and I've been wanting to get into both quadrotors and onboard
video for a while now. I imagine that you'd be looking for a setup
that's very similar to most first-person-video RC rigs which are easy to
get but pricey.

Some links to start things off:

That's the heli I'm currently flying, it has easily enough power to
hoist several pounds of radio / video gear.

Quadrotors are gaining significant popularity at the moment, they use
the same flight controls as helicopters but are far more stable and as a
result much easier to fly.

This is the kind of first-person video gear I've been wanting for a
while now, the idea is to end up with a camera looking out of the
cockpit streaming to a head-mounted video screen. 2-axis headtracking,
on-screen displays, and automatic navigation and flight control are all
available as upgrades.

Sounds like it might be a lot of fun to put this all together with some
funky AR software and see what comes out of it - we should probably
start a new list :)

Cheers!

Chris
