Roger, We'd love to have some Shiitake spawn! Thank you so much for
offering bring it to SF! We probably won't be ready to start spawn for
another few weeks, but we welcome it whenever you are available to come up
to nb. I am in San Mateo a few days per week,s o could also meet you half
way if you don't have time to make the trek.
I will try to pick-up saw dust next week....the place we got it last time
is pretty much on my way home from work. Thanks for the offer to
contribute, Tony...all donations gladly accepted! I will cover this round
of saw dust. Ray has offered to bring substrate and many other supplies
(see below), so maybe we can all help him out with a few dollars for
supplies, fuel, etc.
Mushroom Update:
The plan is to meet again this coming Monday 12/12 at 7p. If you're not
getting arrested shutting down a port...
We want to finish fruiting the current batch, clean the chamber, make a few
modifications. This will probably take through the first of the year.
We've had a re-birth of interest in the project! Ray and Patty, the Mushroom
Maestros <http://www.mushroommaestros.com> came this week, and have
expressed interest in expanding the operation by teaching classes, growing
more varieties, and doing lab work (growing spawn, growing from spores,
etc.). These guys are experienced, knowledgable, and just generally
amazing! Ray has a desire to develop some curriculum around mushroom
cultivaiton, so he wants to host some workshops. I think this will really
help build a bigger circle of interest to rally more people and grow the
project. Welcome Ray and Patty (and Julliet!) We're stoked to have you
onboard.
Mike also mentioned interest from the guys at BTTR! Exciting to see we're
drawing interest from the Bay Area myco community!
A few other tasks came up this week, let's plan to discuss more this Monday:
-We are trying to find a new location for the chamber. Any
suggestions/preferences are greatly appreciated! ...perhaps over by the
member shelves? or to the left of the stairs leading up to the laser
cutting room. The shelves we're using are quite large...it may be prudent
to swap this shelf for one of the other taste bridge shelves...we could
have more storage, and it might be easier to find a climate-appropriate
location to fit the fruiting chamber....just some thoughts. Let's have a
discussion on this...
-establishing regular maintenance sharing rotation
-scheduling classes - establishing dates/times for our next "planting"
-create materials list so we can gather supplies for "take-home blocks"
(Ray wants to do a workshop where everyone takes home
their inoculated block!)
-find a cooler for pitri dishes/test tubes (I have my eyes peeled...)
-figure out tastebridge blog (Im working on this. Here is
Tastebridge<https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Tastebridge>- If you'd
like to join the tastebridge mailing list or update the wiki.
*Rikke - if you're still on this list, can you please point us to the blog
you had going! Hope the road/Atlanta find you well!*)
Brainstorming modifications to the chamber:
-the humistat is working wonders! We think humidity will be more stable
once we control the temperature.
-evaporative cooling aparatus from natural materials
-better oxygen intake
-improved air flow into and out-of the chamber
Also, Natalie announced the project at the Permaculture Guild meeting this
week, so we're hoping to garner some interest from those folk too.
Thank you to Mike, Alan, Natalie, and everyone else that came out this
Monday! Looking forward to making mycelium with everyone!
Spores,
~Matthew
PS - has anyone filled the humidifier since Monday? If not, I will stop by
tomorrow evening.
