[Unixcert] DES and PGP encryption

For DES and PGP portions of the lab,  you need to encrypt messages for your
neighbors and then decrypt a message that they sent you.

For the DES portion, if you don't have a neighbor yet, I have encrypted a
file for each of you (each is a different famous Mark Twain quote) -- you
have to figure out which one. The 64-bit key is the file that ends in a
.bin. The DES message to decrypt is the file that ends in a .des.

All of these files for each of you are rolled up into a tar file. That tar
file is attached (des_encrypted.tar). (Yes, you could also decrypt other
people's messages if you were so inclined :)

As for PGP, you should *NEVER* trust anyone who sends you their PGP key in
the mail (How do you know that this is actually them). For this exercise,
however, you don't really care who they are -- as long as that anonymous
person can send you an encrypted message that you can decrypt to turn into
the laboratory report.

So, in that vein, I have also attached my public key. If you were to want
to communicate with me securely, you want to review this fingerprint with
me in person to make certain I'm really who I say I am (e.g., anyone can
intercept this and put their own keys instead of mine and I'd never know)...

P.S. There are some people on this list that are not in our current class.
So, I can't really discuss the details of the lab at any deeper level than
this (to encrypt/decrypt in both DES and PGP). I went ahead and generated a
DES message for everyone on the list except for two others (because we
already did that in person)
