Mitch Altman <mitch at CornfieldElectronics.com>Hi Mitch:It may be optimistic, but I think we could finish the tax exempt application to the IRS by the end of this coming week, if we really concentrate our efforts. There is an additional application that goes to the Attorney General. I have much of the information from you already, and the bylaws are essentially finished, so the groundwork has been laid. Once the application is submitted, the IRS usually responds fairly quickly with a letter acknowledging receipt. I can also issue a letter to the insurance company stating that the application has been filed, once it has been. Also, I noticed that according to the bylaws the organization needs to establish “rules of conduct” to determine when a director is acting in an unacceptable manner. See bylaws, paragraphs 6.6(e) and 6.7. This might also be another place to incorporate any policies that are required by the IRS, if they are not yet addressed by the bylaws.Rgds,Carolon 10/17/08 12:50 AM, Mitch Altman at mitch at CornfieldElectronics.com wrote:
Hi Carol,Some of the insurance companies we are getting quotes from want us to send them an acknowledgment from the IRS that we applied as a 501(c)(3). Do you have an ETA for when that can happen? Thanks,Mitch.
