> Exempt Organizations: Status Revoked for Not Filing Annual Return or Notice
> Most tax-exempt organizations, other than churches, must file a yearly
> return or notice with the IRS. If an organization does not file a
> required annual return for three consecutive years, the law provides
> that it automatically loses its tax-exempt status. Loss of exempt status
> means an organization must file income tax returns and pay income tax,
> and its contributors will not be able to deduct their donations.
> What must be filed each year depends on the organization’s financial
> Financial activity Filing requirement:
> _Gross receipts normally ≤ $25,000 990-N
> _ <http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=169250,00.html> (e-Postcard)
> _Gross receipts > $25,000_ and < $1 million, and
> Total assets < $2.5 million 990-EZ
> <http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f990ez.pdf> or 990
> _Gross receipts ≥ $500,000_, or
> Total assets ≥ $1.25 million 990 <http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f990.pdf>
> _Private foundation_ (regardless of financial activity) 990-PF
> Due Dates: Depends on your tax year. For example, for tax years ending
> December 31, the filing due date is May 15.
> Also, you are required to file a statement of information with the
> California Secretary of State biennially, and you MAY be required to
> file a tax return with the Franchise Tax Board, and file an annual
> statement with the California Attorney General’s Registrar of Charities.
> Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
