Thanks for installing new locks on the third floor.  Fucking awesome.

It sounds to me like we should just offer to install a new gate lock.
Put in something that we can hook up to our preferred authentication
mechanism, hook it up to the existing buzzer mechanism, and we're
golden.  The landlord gets a more secure gate, we get a mechanism that
works for our purposes, and we build some goodwill with the landlords.

The downside is, the gate isn't even slightly secure -- there's an air
gap between the 10' top of the gate and the bottom of the building
facade.  If there weren't a gap, I'd say we leave the glass doors
unlocked and use the gate for security.  Since there is a gap, that
won't work unless we solve the problem somehow.

But a more sane gate is a good idea regardless.
