If you have a foot, you can have a kick that opens the gate too :)
Seriously, I wouldn't trust that thing to protect an intern from a
politician, much less electronics from crackheads.

I'm not going to think too much about screwing with the gate until
after we hear back from the landlord about fixing/replacing it.  It
may be that they have some other requirements that we don't know about
yet.  But yes, separating the authentication mechanism from the
locking mechanism is one thing I have in mind.

For bolt, striker, tumbler, guard, keys, etc?  That sounds kind of
high -- discount builder supply up the street had the light commercial
ANSI 1 model I got for a little over $30 including spool pins.  Are
you talking about something capable of taking more than 2 tons?
