That looks awesome. Even a simple trackball would be neat, to allow
one hand to operate and the other to work freely. Interfacing these
types of pointing devices with the iphone looks nontrivial, though. I
am looking into it but haven't spent a lot of time yet.

Switching from the iphone to a pocket-form-factor PC might be the way
to go. Then you can just hook up an alphagrip or bluetooth trackball.
Unfortunately it does mean taking the hit to integrate back all the
phone features and forgoing the iphone apps.
