[Efa] Call on Wed 1/3 @ 1:30 to stop warrantless NSA surveillance in 2018

Happy new year! I hope the holiday season offered plenty of celebration and am writing now about a time-sensitive opportunity to advance digital rights undermined by warrantless NSA surveillance.

You may already know that faced with a key statutory deadline at the end of 2017, members of Congress tried to ram through a proposed last minute extension <https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2017/12/dont-reauthorize-nsa-spying-must-pass-funding-bill> without crucial privacy protections, but instead were forced to punt the question <https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2017/12/momentary-victory-against-nsa-surveillance> into the new year. As a result, the current legal authorization for NSA warrantless domestic surveillance will expire on January 19.

With only two weeks remaining before the new deadline, there is no better time to discuss how Bay Area activists working together can influence Congress, and particularly House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

We invite you to a conference call at 1:30pm PDT tomorrow, Wednesday, 1/3/17. Please reply if you (or others in your group) are able to join us. We’ll share call-in details with groups whose representatives RSVP.

We’re looking forward to your thoughts--and to working together to finally put an end to warrantless domestic surveillance in 2018!

All the best in the new year, and talk to you soon,
Shahid
