Madhatters,
I have mentioned to Rachel, Kelly and Carly (maybe David) the idea of making
sweater hats. I have made a few, used to do this as a street performance at
the Oakland Art Murmurs a few years ago. Me and my friend Peck used to
offer hats to passersby. We would sculpt them right on the head, offering
the model a hand mirror occasionally for feedback, much like a hairdresser
does in a salon. If the participant wanted to buy it after, they could make
a donation. It would be fun to break up into pairs and do them for each
other. All we need are sweaters: merino wool, angora, cashmere, lambswool,
even less soft hats can work if they are later trimmed with grosgrain or
something to keep them from being itchy around the hairline.
Jasmin Zorlu is one of the best Bay Area milliners. She makes them, too!
Here is the url for her site and an example of her sweater hats:

know if you want to try this sometime? I can do Wed nights and some
Saturdays.
