Hi, Noisebridge! We added a new class at 7pm Pacific on November 4, 2014
Using ActiveRecord Without Rails For A Web Scraper
We will look at how to use ActiveRecord to query a SQLite database in an app, without needing to create a whole entire Rails app.
The app we will build is a simple website scraper. We will run quickly through some basic web scraping concepts, like HTML and DOM objects.
The app will be built to mimic the structure of a Rails app in a very basic way, and to allow for quick addition of custom webpage parsers.
For the sake of this tutorial, we will focus on building a scraper for Reddit's pages.
