This is the second in a series of belated meeting notes.
https://www.noisebridge.net/wiki/Meeting_Notes_2008_11_04

Apologies for the delay. Hope everyone had good Thanksgiving. As always,
if anyone sees things that are wrong, misleading, mistaken, etc. please
let me know via e-mail or on the list. I will wikify once there's been
time for corrections.

1) Treasurer announcements.
* Please pay dues!
* Noisebridge goes away if people don't pay dues
* $80 regular / $40 starving artist
* All contributions welcome, our rent is $1975/month
* Cash, check, paypal, direct transfer (see wiki)
* Suggestion: look at Google Checkout
* Max donation: 172.437 million dollars

2) Membership process
* Not opposed, seems complicated
* Want to be member now? Give $80 for dues before process finalized
* Seth A. - do we take role?
* Idea: people should be here first, be slightly less than random
* Some people show up, never seen again
** Minimal hurdle?
** Allows for self-filtering
* Can we do a better job making it seem like a standard procedure?
** Process just starting, see if it works first
* Always open for review, not final

* Consensus: we adopt process
* Secretary will keep track of process

3) Discover Article

* Danny O'Brian wrote article about us for Irish Times!
** Implies we are single handedly going to revive US economy?
* Is anyone opposed to article?
** Should seek consensus before asking for objections
* Annalee has experience covering groups sensitive to media coverage
* We're going to be written about anyway, might as well have someone who
will do a good job.
* Can Annalee show us the article? A: No, that is "corrupt journalism."
Discover will employ fact checkers to confirm details.

* Consensus: Annalee writes the article, using all due care for peoples'
wishes.

4) Election Interlude

* Obama hits 273 electoral votes according to NYT!
* Prop 8 is leaning toward YES

5) Dorkbot

* Size of last dorkbot - average 60-70 people
* Too large for Noisebridge 83C space
* Can we rent a larger overflow space?
* Station 40: nearby left wing meeting, theatre space, holds ~200
* Would Station 40 be cool with doing it?
* Can Dorkbot limit attendance? A: Not really.
* Can we rent space for Noisebridge Annex - Station 40?
* How expensive?
* Also women's building, community center, ~60 people
* Churches happy to rent out space as well

* Consensus: we love dorkbot, but we can't do it at 83C. We will look
for alternate spaces, such as Station 80.

6) Drinks / PLC
* $200 of soda donated, money by Andy
* David M. : Need process for drinks, look for email + wiki page
* Consensus: go off and talk about it, bring back to group

7) CCC in Berlin
* Chaos Communications Congress in Berlin.
* Anyone going?
* Mitch doing HW hacking
* Jake going

8) Soundproofing?
* No problem except when outside
* Up higher from the ground sound might be a problem?
* Taqueria fan repaired, removing white noise, makes our noise more
noticeable
** Turn on a fan at night?
* Neighbor doesn't distinguish between us and other neighbors
* Make friends w/cops?
* Landlord Ahuva called, wants letter to her and to city
* "Multiple noise complaints" at 3AM
** Taqueria construction?
* Need contact info for city attorney
* Andy writing letter, taking fliers to Ahuva
* Cops 2 weeks ago talked to Steen about noise
* Fort Gallery was next door, had monthly opening party, moved out
** Ahuva says "neighbor got gallery out"
** Not clear what this means, probably gallery tired of dealing w/complaints
* Mitch tried to talk to neighbor, no response
* Need a sign outside about "keep noise down" - Rubin volunteered to help

9) RepRap
* Series of tubes made
* Chopsaw/cutoff saw useful now
** Can go to metal shop?
** $200 at Home Depot?
** Discussion about what saws work or do not work for aluminum
* Stepper motors, have some, salvage more from old printers

10) Buy toner cartridge?
* We'll buy a toner cartridge

11) Surface field trip
* Mark has a friend working on Surface, talk to him

12) AVR programming
* Talk to Jeff Keyser
