Hello Makers,

Last May, two dozen Makers wowed the socks off of about 500 students who
came on the Friday before Maker Faire for a special program we called
"Education Day." It was such a success that we find we cannot
resist continuing our service to the community again this year. We have
quite a lineup of offerings for students and teachers. Check it out
at http://makerfaire.com/education

I wanted to tell all of you about three specific ways you can help with
our school outreach:

*(1) Inspire school kids on the Friday before Maker Faire. *
We're looking for 25-30 Makers to take this great chance to mint the
next generation of Makers in their own image! We have busloads of eager
and interested elementary, junior high, and high school students coming
on *Friday, May 29th*, the day before Maker Faire--i.e., during setup.
This year's school preview will most likely see groups stopping by to
visit Makers in their final Maker Faire assigned location. Because this
is a mid-morning event, it will all finish up before the Maker-to-Maker
event in the afternoon. If you can be a part of this Friday school
preview, let me know, and I'll send more details to you.

*(2) Go where the kids are.*
We've also lined up a number of outreach events in schools and
kid-centric entertainment venues, and we continue to hear from teachers
requesting a visit. We have at least 4 days when you can spend an hour
or two passing on your DIY spirit to kids. Email me for more details.
-- THIS coming *Sunday, April 26th *(1-4pm): The Hillsdale Mall in San
Mateo (a primo spot --- in front of the LEGO store!)
-- THIS coming *Monday, April 27th or Friday, May 1*: three 5th-grade
classes in San Mateo have invited a circuit-savvy Maker to come help
them prep for their standardized tests with a fun hands-on project. We
can only do this event if we hear from a volunteer.
-- *Sunday, May 3rd* (2-4pm): Science Day at an elementary school
in Burlingame
--* Thursday, May 21* (10-11:35am): San Jose Giants Education
Day; pre-game science activity of your making with ~25-30 third- to
sixth-grade students (of 600 students coming total). Baseball fans can
stay for the game afterwards.
-- We'd be happy to line up visits to local schools and afterschool
programs to fit your schedule, if you'd like to volunteer an hour or two
sharing your projects with kids. Schools from San Jose to Redding have
asked for Makers to visit. Let me know your constraints, and we can
figure something out.

*(3) Spread the word. *
We are once again offering /free Maker Faire admission to qualified
teachers/ -- as long as they make their online request in time to snatch
up one of the 500 available tickets. If you want your teaching friends
to come see you in action at Maker Faire, we encourage you to tell them
about our education overview page where we spell it all out for them.
It's at http://makerfaire.com/education

Thanks for your help, and let me know if you have any questions or would
like to take part.

:) mi
