Hm.  Other than the potential drama that could come about by having real
money and concern over who controls it?  I think it would be an awesome
thing to have Noisebridge associated with, if we're talking about open
source solutions.  (Which I assume we are, as grants are strange things to
hand out to make companies stronger.)
