Thanks for checking, Matt.
In addition to a manual failover UI for the soekris, I'd really like to
see it configured like so:
comcast speakeasy
| |
| wrt54g ===== SSID noisebridge-dsl
| |
+---- sis0 sis1 ------+
soekris
sis2
|
cisco
|
+--- ruckus ============= SSID noisebridge
|
+--- pony
|
+--- printer
|
... etc
(of course the exact interface names on soekris aren't relevant, I just
wanted to make my idea of the configuration clear.)
(Also, speakeasy has multiple static IPs for us to use -- at least two
-- so we can have the wrt54g NAT on one of them and bridge another to
the soekris.)
That way, the soekris can be modified, rebooted, improved, filtered, etc
and we'll continuously have a working network config through
speakeasy -> noisebridge-dsl.
Once the soekris has been competely stable for a month or two, and
people are confident it won't be undergoing maintenance or improvement,
then perhaps repurposing the noisebridge-dsl AP would make sense. But,
having a dead-simple "the modem plugs into the AP, power cycle both if
it's not passing traffic" configuration will help avoid the situation we
had on Monday.
