[Noisebridge-discuss] Banned Disney cartoons

Thanks Sai, this is fascinating stuff.

I actually used to distribute a CD full of banned cartoons, before Youtube
came along. There are a number of themes which are now considered really
offensive, and deliberately kept off the air. Comedy Central used to run a
special called "June Bugs" where they would show off a bunch of banned
Warner Bros cartoons, like "Herr meets Hare" and "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips".

Actually, if you watch old cartoons, like Betty Boop and Popeye, they are
usually loaded with all kinds of what we now call racial propaganda. A lot
of it is very cultural, and we can look at how much our culture has changed
since then.

As far as modern propaganda goes, I think there is lots of it, but it's
harder to tell because we're *in* the culture that is producing it, and we
generally take a side. I encourage you especially to look at episodes of
South Park and other shows that came out right after 9/11.
