Well, unless we're installing fire doors, that wouldn't have made any
difference at all, as the fire was definitely not in the space.  I think the
way events unfolded was the best possible scenario.  Because we had the open
pathway down to the second floor, we were able to smell the smoke, respond
and get the fire out quickly before it became a real problem.

And we had a nice interaction with the firemen as well.  (I would also add
that the police role in this situation was to direct traffic around the fire
trucks.  They didn't come near the space.)
